The Washington state Office of the Insurance Commissioner is here to protect insurance consumers. It oversees the insurance industry to ensure that companies follow the rules and that Washington consumers get what they pay for.
We test, license and monitor the nearly 100,000 individuals and businesses selling insurance in the state. Some 56 insurance companies are based in Washington, and another 2,144 are authorized to do business here.
We also answer questions and investigate problems for more than 100,000 people a year. We take calls (1-800-562-6900), e-mails, and maintain a statewide network of volunteers to advise consumers on health coverage issues.
